The Federation of Turkish Furniture Associations (MOSFED), the umbrella organization of the Turkish furniture industry, has launched a meaningful social responsibility project in line with its sustainable future vision. The first step towards establishing MOSFED Memorial Forests, each comprising 10,000 saplings in seven regions of Türkiye, was taken in Istanbul. The Federation planted its first forest of 10,000 saplings in Çekmeköy.
MOSFED, which continues its efforts to help the furniture industry achieve its production and export targets, also aims to increase sustainability awareness across the industry. The sapling planting event for the first 10,000-tree forest at the location designated by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Istanbul Çekmeköy was attended by MOSFED President Ahmet Güleç, MOBSAD President Nuri Gürcan, MOSDER President Davut Karaçak, MOBDER President Murat Tunç, along with MOSFED employees, association secretaries general, and business partners.
Within the scope of this project, which symbolizes MOSFED’s environmentally conscious approach, each sapling to be planted will be a tangible reflection of the industry’s commitment to “a greener future“. The memorial forest protocol signed by MOSFED with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Tohum Education, Culture, and Nature Association will be valid for 3 years.
“Sustainability is our indispensable commitment”
Commenting on the idea and process of creating Memorial Forests, MOSFED President Ahmet Güleç stated:
“As the furniture industry, we have a production culture that is intertwined with our raw materials, nature, and the ecosystem. Therefore, we must take responsibility not only for today but also for future generations. Our decision to establish forests, each comprising 10,000 trees, in seven regions of Türkiye is precisely a result of this understanding. When necessary, we aim to leave a green legacy exceeding 100,000 trees in total by creating second forests in some regions.
This journey, which we initiated with the protocol we signed during the Furnishings and Design Istanbul (FDI) organization that we organized to showcase the design, innovation, and sustainability power of the Turkish furniture industry, demonstrates our industry’s environmental sensitivity, spirit of unity, and strong commitment to a sustainable future. MOSFED Memorial Forests will not merely be a planting initiative; they will be a lasting symbol of our industry’s shared vision for the future.
As MOSFED, we are working to unite innovation with sustainability, production with design, and our brands with a global vision. Within this framework, through the Green Economy Index that we implement, we monitor the industry’s environmental performance and guide our companies on sustainable transformation. Our goal is not merely to produce; it is to create a furniture ecosystem that is environmentally conscious, innovative, long-lasting, and human-centered. We will continue to place sustainability at the core of all processes, from eco-friendly production to eco-design approaches.”
